Anhaga Photographic

Biography

‘Anhaga’ is an Old-English term which roughly translates as ‘wanderer’ or ‘exile’, a person far from civilisation and comfort. A true landscape photographer at heart, it is this approach that I find most rewarding when chasing light and drama, leaving the coach-tour stop offs far behind and venturing properly into little-visited territory. My approach is one of powerful lighting and dynamic composition, drawing the viewer into the raw and beautiful reality of nature at its best. Known to wait for more than a week for the right weather and lighting conditions, the reward for these moments is more than just photographic. Being in such stunning surroundings when displayed in all their majesty is beyond words. Even more so since these times are often ridiculously anti-social, especially when photographing in the sub-arctic circle in summer, leaving me as sole witness to such powerful and humbling views. I have found my calling in witnessing and recording these moments and intend to spend my life chasing them. When not travelling, I live in Cambridge, England, where I document the incredible architecture of the University and its colleges. Here I follow a similar stylistic approach, often finding the usually packed streets eerily deserted as the other members of the city sleep. Basing my forays around the low-sun times of the day, my style brings fantastic colour and texture to the wonderfully ornate buildings, displaying them at their jaw-dropping best. I also accept a deal of freelance work, especially amongst the student body, most notably as head-photographer for the student newspaper ‘The Cambridge Student’. I hope you enjoy the site and the images displayed here, feel free to contact me with any queries, comments or especially commissions! If you’re less interested in the technical details, and just after some inspiration and a reminder of the dynamic world we live in, the image-only slide-show is there for you to put on your favourite music to, sit back, and relax...
